Yes but the whole point of Emma is that she was a total dick, regreted it, learnt from her mistakes and then tried to make amends.

I understand that, and I'm not sure what I said that gave you the impression I didn't. My point was that I find it difficult to equate her and Darcy. A very superficial comparison can be made, but I wouldn't go so far as the anon I was responding to, who said "they are pretty much the same character". I disagree. I think Emma's faults were more serious, and more significantly, the actions she took because of her conceit had the potential to be more damaging than anything Darcy did.

I misread your comment as a SJW rant about Emma, not a comparison between her and Darcy. My bad, sorry.

Ah, I see. It's peculiar how little it takes for people to interpret something as an SJW rant, though. I like Emma and appreciate that she matures a great deal over the course of the book, but I'm definitely aware of her shortcomings as a person.

I guess it just feels like SJW ranting is in stereo all the time, it's what I expect as default these days. Plus I'm super tired.
