I honestly don't know how it is now days, but when I was heavily involved in fandom (back in the heydays of LJ), I saw some argue that male characters were inherently better written than female characters and that as soon as a well-written female character came along, they'd totally be a fan!

Yeah, I remember that too. They always had some excuse why #FemaleCharacter wasn't REALLY well-written enough to write fanfic about, unlike That Dude Who Was In One Episode, Once and how they were totally eyefucking with the Hero.

And don't forget the "we're into slash because we are totes progressive and support gay rights" crowd. *eyeroll*
