This secret could so be me. My muse has come up with a giant list of plot ideas. Yet my muse won't let me actually write any of them except on rare occasions.

Same here. I've started a few fics here and there, I know exactly how I want them to go...but for some reason I just can't get into the headspace to actually finish them, or start on any of the other dozens of ideas I have.

Unlike the secret maker, though, I don't see it as a sign I'm losing interest in the fandom-I figure I wouldn't have so many ideas if I were losing interest. I think in my case it's more that I just need to learn to make time to write and focus better :p.

Oh no, I'm struggling with this myself and I'm determined to fight through it. I will finish this damn porn prompt for [community profile] pbam even if it kills me.

I have so many things to work on. And I'm about to have to write three fics as prizes for a contest on a community I help run. Please, please, let the prompts be something I can easily write.

Oh no. Good luck comrade. If you need help...well, I probably wouldn't be very helpful since I don't think we share fandoms but I'm willing to suffer with you while writing things, haha.

It is ship specific (Melkor/Sauron or either character), so that's at least helpful. I'm just hoping for porny prompts because I'm a lot better at those.

I don't even know why I offered except that the person running the contest was only offering one prize and I felt like we should have more. And then somehow I was writing three fics. And I'm doing two for next month's challenge.

I do love my fandom, though, and we're trying to get it more active. And we got some great contest entries so it is all good.

I've found that trying to revive old fandoms or make small fandoms more active makes it easier to write fic. At least for me!

You've taken on a lot but you got this. \o/

True. And plus, although the mod entries don't count towards winning the contest, my story still got a bunch of votes, and that makes me really happy. It was a very out there fic for me, so I'm glad it was enjoyed by some people.

Awesome! Sounds like a worthwhile project.

It has been fun. We've done monthly themes. Last month was fluffy February, this month is morbid March, and next month is angsty April. I don't know how long we're going to keep this up (February got a lot more activity because the fandom really seems to like fluff), but it has been great to see more activity.

Reminds me of Horrible Histories with their Vicious Victorians, etc.)
I run a community for a small fandom but a fest that we did a year ago didn't take. So I'm happy to hear that some small fandoms are doing great. \o/

OP, I'm sure it's nothing to do with your time in fandom being 'up'! It's not like there's a set amount of time you can be in fandom or anything ... Maybe you just need to try something new, take a break from fandom, or something? I've taken breaks from writing fic before and just let myself focus on writing original stuff, and it's helpful to take a breather from time to time. Just don't force yourself! That's when you'll let yourself down.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-27 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
This usually happens to me when I'm between fandoms or burning out on my current one. It usually goes away once I take a break and find a different fandom, though admittedly that can take anywhere from a few weeks to a year to happen.

I get this, new ideas for fic or drawings are a dime a dozen for me but I'm being terrible at finishing things atm.

Serious question, but did something relatively major change in our life (job, study, relationship,...?)

I can't make my brain knock this the fuck off, either.

Two things:

First, if this really is the end of your time in fandom, as much as it sucks, it's going to be okay. There's something else out there for you, something that will fulfill and delight you as much as fandom has.

Second, it might not actually be the end. You might be in a slump, or you might need a new fandom to reawaken the part of you that's able to transform ideas into fic. I'm like you, in that I mainly relate to fandom through writing, and I went nine years without writing so much as a drabble. But then, I happened across something that spoke to me on such a level that the fic all but wrote itself.

Fandom participation ebbs and flows. Relax into it, if you can.

Like others have said, you may just need a break from fandom, or new material to work with. Try looking for fresh material, or even a completely new fandom, maybe?

It could also be overthinking/stress. Like, I know if I try and force an idea out of my head, it will NOT budge for the life of me. Maybe try relaxing a bit before brainstorming and letting it flow naturally?

This happens. Take a break. Watch something new. Write a drabble. You'll get there. Some ideas take longer to simmer.

I've noticed the same thing, OP. I think it may partly be that my attention span has dwindled. I blame it on my iPhone.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-28 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Do yourself a favor and wean yourself off the iPhone, nonny. This kind of problem only gets worse with time.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-28 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
me too :(

take a break from trying to force yourself to create a while, take up a new hobby or immerse yourself in the outdoors or traveling or something other than fandom, my best ideas always come when I'm busy with other things .
