Grumbling over Belgium and safety measures.

I just want to vent a bit. Soo...today I was literally not let into a movie theatre because my bag was "too big". Funnily, it's actually fandom related, because it was my Cap America messenger bag...but I digress.

Like, I would have even been fine being searched or leaving in in lockers - but nope, not allowed either. City-enforced security measures. Meaning half of the female population are not basically "potential terrorists".

I get the situation is dire, I'm not an idiot. I just honestly d not think this does anything to prevent terrorism (the airport attacks were pre-ticket check, ad they could still do exactly the same at the movie theatre).

I just think you're just creating at atmosphere of fear, and putting a city under semi-martial law (obviously there were soldiers with guns parading around also). I honestly think it's not helping at all.

Write a letter to your newspaper reminding people that those who trade freedom for security deserve neither.

I am seriously considering that, actually.

Do it. Point out how you'll never go back to that theater so they know that they're overreaction to fear has cost them a customer.

I'm not going to do that. That's my theatre and they're not responsible for the measures. My beef is with whoever ordered this shit.

By over reacting into ludicrous security procedures, you hand victory to the terrorist. By going out the day after the terrorist event and doing exactly what you did before, how you did it before, you remind them how little power they really have. Sad Belgium has not learned that lesson yet. Of course, politicians will always seize any excuse to expand their powers and gain more population control. That works in the terrorists favor too.

I agree wholeheartedly with that sentiment, which is why I went to do exactly what I would on a normal weekend.

Ugh, these sorts of TSA-style measures that barely work and, I agree with you, just create a heightened atmosphere.....I feel you. I'm sorry.:(

TSA measures that actively endanger people by making another terrorist attack more likely to succeed too.

Seems strange that they'd opt for straight banning rather than subjecting to a search.

I can understand your irritation.

I'm not in Belgium but I'm inclined to agree with your overall sentiment. :/ hopefully it will die down.

As cliche as it sounds...living in fear is letting the terrorists win. That's what they WANT, for people to be afraid!
