Anyone else a fan of "Stand Still, Stay Silent"?
http://sssscomic.com/comic.php

I like it, but I struggle to see why it is just Scandinavia that survived the apocalypse. All that is needed is cold winters and a little isolation. I can see why a lot of Europe is fucked, but even there there are places in mountain regions like the alps and Pyrenees that would be fine. Places in Canada and the Alaskan Islands, and a lot of North Russia ought to be fine. Isolated Southern Hemisphere island groups like the Falklands, South Sandwich Islands and so on ought to be fine too, as well as a lot of places in Tierra Del Fuego too. It seems like the plague and aftermath is really screwy in how it worked.

Smorgasboards were an effective deterrent?

Mmmm... smorgasboards.

Because that's where the creator is from, so they stuck with what they knew, I assume.

Yeah, but there should at least be a handwave as to why all the other places that have potential isolated and cold winter regions have not got their own sanctuary states. Plus they should have been able to clear the Shetland and Orkney Island groups of infected material, both those island groups are in their main trade route. Even if those island groups were overrun initially they should still be easily cleared and being isolated preventable from receiving new infection.

True. I can't recall an instance where it was said that for sure nowhere else survived though, so it's possible other places did, they just can't make contact because of the circumstances. I'm terrible with those kinds of details though.

I'm a little behind on SSSS, but do we KNOW that no other place survived? It could be that other places did survive, but haven't made contact because loss of technology and oh yeah, plague monsters.

The meta material has said that it is only the Scands that survived.

I love SSSS!

We don't know it's just Scandinavia though? They literally walled themselves off - if other countries are in a similar boat it's not like they can contact each other? So it'd be really hard to handwave that into the story.

I really like how they had the 4 different areas/families respond to the apocalypse in a different way.

And in the end, not different to any other postapoc. Only instead of america being the "only place in the world" - they are making it Scandanavia? Makes for a nice change of pace.
