Can I get some LGBT book recs?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-27 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm game for pretty much anything without a sad ending.

DA Ooooh, I didn't know Karen Memory had a lesbian main character. I'll definitely have to check it out.

The Kate Kane series by Alexis Hall
Counterpoint by Rachel Haimowitz
The Dark Souls series by Aleksander Voinov
The Captive Prince series by C.S. Pascat
Bad Magic by Evelyn Elliot

That's all the stuff I've enjoyed recently.

Captive Prince is pretty overrated. But if you're in for an overwrought harlequin romance with a dash of fiddy shades, that doesn't make much sense in large parts (= what I have read), go ahead.

I looked up the summary for that one & it sounded like the kind of thing I could find for free in about 500 fanfic AUs. Might be satisfying anyway, but I'm not totally convinced it's worth paying for.

AYRT I kind of agree, actually. But it's an easy read and a lot of people liked it. It can be a good jumping off point if you've not read a lot of LGBT fiction. I see it as a good thing overall, because it's becoming very popular in the mainstream and that might mean a wider audience for more LGBT books.

The other books I recommended have much better plots, a much more nuanced understanding of sexuality, and far better characters. They're not nearly as popular, sadly.

anything without a sad ending.

Mah N-word! We're blood you and I. Pathetic, emotionally fragile fam.

Try the Kate Kane books (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Iron-Velvet-Kate-Paranormal-Investigator-ebook/dp/B00HBIV8ZU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1459116136&sr=8-1&keywords=kate+kane)

Two out so far with a third coming... at some point.

So it's paranormal noir with a lesbian twist.

It's pretty old by now, but I remember liking Annie On My Mind.

Annie On My Mind was the ONE LGBT book my high school library had, I must have read it like four or five times.

Try this publisher! They get a lot of awards, taking their low output into account.

I'll also recommend Riptide Publishing. I've read a lot I've liked from them.

'The Geography Club' by Brent Hartinger.

'Openly Straight' by Bill Konigsberg. The ending is a bit bittersweet though.

'Annie on My Mind' by Nancy Garden.

Shadow Scale by Rachel Hartman is the sequel to Seraphina, about a half-dragon music instructor, but it has both a canon ot3 and trans characters, as well as a happy ending. Before then gets pretty dark, although not necessarily about the romantic bits.

D. Jordan Redhawke's Tiopa Ki Lakota. I've read several of her books and she's quite good.

i takes forever to find out some characters in Emelan are gay but the narrating is by ten year olds at first. none of gay characters die, and the books have a high body count.
