Re: What annoys you at the moment?

my fucking ear. it's totally clogged up with wax. I used medication which helped, and then tried to irrigate it to get it all out and that caused it to clog all the way up again and it's been clogged for 2 straight day snow.

I hate it. when I talk, sing, eat, breathe, or move my head, I can hear it echoing in my head. it's physically annoying and sort of makes me a bit sick in a weird way. and I can't hear well out of my left ear.

I want to go to the doctor to get it irrigated but I'll have to look and see how much that will cost since it won't be my one insurance-allowed GP visit for the year (or at least it shouldn't be, I'm not due for that until July-ish)

I wonder if there's a clinic around here that will do it for me for cheap, I mean it takes like five minutes and can't be that much cost???

This happens to me a lot and it's the worst. I'm fortunate to have insurance now, so I just head to the doctor when it happens, but when I didn't have insurance, I'd just keep using hydrogen peroxide and water until the wax crumpled up and came out. I'm not proud of it, but I'd also use a bobby pin to dig out the wax from time to time because it was driving me nuts.

no way am I going the bobby pin route, I'm way too scared of damaging something.

I'm going to the doc tomorrow, and I hope it doesn't cost too much. I did a little research and I don't think it will cost more than my normal copay.

I don't know if you've tried it yet, but I've heard good things about this:

Huh, I haven't heard of that particular product. The bulb syringe I tried made it so much worse, it just crammed it all in.

I'm seeing my GP tomorrow; I'll ask him what he thinks. Thanks for the suggestion!

have you tried to clear it with peroxide? I've used 1/2 filtered water and 1/2 3% hydrogen peroxide, dripped a few drops in my ear and laid on my side for 5-15 minutes, the peroxide dissolves the wax pretty well

I haven't tried that. Is that the active ingredient in any meds or is it something you can get on its own? (the box for the medicine I've been using is not near me and I'm too ensconced to get up and go get it lol)

also when you say lay on your side, do you mean lay on the opposite side from the ear you put it in, so it can have more time to dissolve? how do you then get the wax out afterwards?

late reply, but you get it on its own, in a brown bottle at the drug store

yes you lay on the opposite side, the peroxide will fizz in your ear. as for how I got it out, when the time was up I put a cotton ball in my ear, then sat up and leaned my head to the opposite side so it all drained out.
