An essay I read in the New York Times saying that Go Set A Watchman finally rightly destroyed the immaturity and sentimentality of To Kill A Mockingbird and that anyone who didn't agree was a pleb.

Ugh. I hate the "cynicism = maturity" line of thinking. Way to totally miss the point of TKAM.

You could have just said 'The New York Times' and left it at that.

Nah I really like the New York Times for the most part, just some of their Op-Eds are pretty eyeroll-worthy. Sorry to burst your pathetic Republican bubble.

Pfft. My Republican bubble is intact. I'll have you know that we have some of the highest quality reporting stations. They are fair and balanced and give us updates on the most relevant of topics, such as the status of Megyn Kelly's feud with the talking hairpiece.

NYT isn't often very pretentious? Some op-eds, as the above nonny said, induce some cringing, but it's a paper written on an 8th grade reading level

Honestly, the last time I read it was when I visited my family in NYC years ago. Maybe it's improved, but I don't really feel the need to find out. I get my news from NPR, the Associated Press, and the BBC.

If NYT is too pretentious for you but NPR is your jam then we might define "pretentiousness" differently :P

...I say loving NPR a lot, but

I REMEMBER THAT AND MY RESPONSE WAS HONESTLY JUST "FIGHT ME"

/will defend the "sentimentality" of TKAM to my dying day
