Memorable fanfic Mary Sues?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-28 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Other than Enoby from My Immortal, can you guys remember any famous or just really memorably terrible Mary Sues (or Mary Sue mischaracterizations of canon characters) from fanfics you've read?

Extra points for male ones!

Does it count if they're actually fun? I like the main character in Mystara's Little Ponies, but he's a Sue on so many levels. https://www.fimfiction.net/story/2857/mystaras-little-ponies-friendship-is-adventuring

Does the main protagonist of The Da Vinci Code count?

Harriet Vane is simultaneously a brilliant, ground-breaking protofeminist heroine, and the single most shameless author self-insert I've ever seen.

Ayla from the Earths Children series. Her male counterpart is Jondalar from the same series.

First, of course, we've gotta define terms.

Since "Mary-Sue" is so frequently used to describe ANY Original Female Character.

I'd say that the term as originally used was for an OC who warped the canon around herself, like a black hole pulling everyone else inexorably into her orbit.

Harry in Mirror of Maybe. I don't recall the name he assumed after he started living by his alternate identity, but I do recall the last update I ever noticed before I wandered out of HP and into LotR, a couple of people in the fan circle I was in said he came off very Stu-ish. I didn't take it well then, because I liked the story, but as I look back I realise that yes, yes he was.

There's also Harry Potter: Geth - a Mass Effect crossover where Harry gets transported through time and lands on a Geth world, badly injured, and they reconstruct him, and... he basically uses the vast resources of having the Geth behind him to help fight the Reaper war. I'll give you the URL for anyone who wants to try it, but as this thread intends, it is very Stu-ish:
