I was going to say, you can totally get an account just for subscriptions, and it might lessen the disappointment and anxiety. I have lots of subscriptions on fics I don't plan to read until they're complete.

Oh! I do this too! When I see a cool summary but the fic's not complete, I'll subscribe and then wait for it to be completed. Then, I download it to my iPad, curl up with some coffee, and read. It's the best reading experience.
