Oooo, interesting. I have a hard time seeing Feanor being willing to reconcile, but it certainly would be interesting to explore.

For me, I can read a lot of Feanor's actions regarding Fingolfin as someone who is attracted with someone he shouldn't be and is projecting his frustration on the person who engenders these unwanted feelings in him. Obviously, I don't think that's what's in the book, but I think it's a plausible way to ship these two. If Feanor finally admits his feelings, then his hostility towards his brother would cool.

Alternatively, I think that if Feanor sees what happens to his sons and we believe he is a good father, even he would eventually regret his actions and the pain it caused. I think eventually his fire will cool and he will calm down (might take a ton of time). Or, he might have a heart-to-heart with his mother, which I think he needs.

He will realize that whether he likes it or not, he HAS to make peace with Fingolfin (for their people, for their family, for any hope of a future). And I'd like to think that once he decided that's how things are, he'd just plow through to making it happen like he usually does, and he might realize that Fingolfin is actually kind of awesome. I always read that Feanor knew Fingolfin's good points; he was jealous about them after all. If he let himself stop being angry, I think it wouldn't be hard for him to like his brother. Obviously, only after a ton of talking and opening up and heated arguments to overcome all the shit in the past.

For Fingolfin, he would be angry and upset but he seems like the type who would get over it eventually. I think he admired his brother and was hurt by Feanor's distrust. He wouldn't be easily won, but I think he too can see that there needs to be peace and they need to find some way of reconciling for the good of everyone.

I don't think it would be easy (which is why it's so fascinating to me) but I think it could be done.

I definitely support this view.

I know back in the day (2004) I briefly flirted with the idea of these two, but they are so damn uncommon.

As an aside, I like to imagine both their wives plus a few others who refused to go into exile (like perhaps Curufin's wife) have regular meet-ups and maybe a sewing circle support group.
