Pretty much this. Moderates who don't actually threaten me because I can safely ignore them or deride them (and they, me. fair's fair.). My threshold for non-secular views influencing government is low enough that the USA (or particular states anyway) is on my "never even live here for five minutes" list.

Which states?

(I know you're going to name mine. My governor has been such an embarrassment lately)

The only one that really comes to mind at the moment, and I get the feeling that it's yours going by the embarrassing governor comment, is Kansas over it's illegal bathroom nonsense on transgender folk. The $2500 "reward" for reporting someone definitely stands out, particularly given it's reasoning that it's to compensate the mental trauma of the reporter (and not all on the grief and harrassment of the individual who was just going to take a dump).

If it makes you feel better, I'm in Alberta (canadian texas iirc), and we have our share of transphobic idiots. But they're less likely to actually effect new progressive legislations and policy. Here's some progressive dance moves set to also terrible edu-rap.

Yeah, the bathroom bill shit is spectacularly dumb and insulting.

...sorry I got about ten seconds into that first video and had to stop O.O

As much as it gives me a headache to think about how it could pass in 2016, I'm enjoying following the topic on social media! I get lovely argument gems like this:

(statistically, it is femmes and trans women that are more likely to face harrasment in bathrooms tbf, and passing culture notwithstanding)
(edit: and also that is based on North Carolina, not Kansas. uh)

Noping out is the correct option :)

Are you suggesting they are (hard to tell)? Because they're not. The point is these bills are passed on the guise of protecting women from "men" in their bathrooms, while simultaneously mandating men to use women's washrooms. And vice versa for women in men's (although I don't have them on hand, there were also twitter/facebook responses like above. A lot of them mimicked as selfies in public washrooms among the men or women they would stand out against).

Bottom left and center specifically tweeted selfies of themselves in response to the bill before it passed.

Whoops! Hit reply while copy pasting the last link here!
These are a couple recent responses post-passing of that bill.

So... I'm confused now. Are they trans? Or is the point simply to highlight the hypocrisy of the bill?

Those are trans men in that picture I posted. And the point is the hypocrisy.

really!

I was observing another thread about this topic and one person mentioned Laverne Cox. Excellent example imo. I took the opportunity to show my friend, who I was talking about politics with but who is himself fairly politically non-savvy (he just doesn't pay much attention but is a really decent person) a picture of her and asked "how would you feel if this person walked into the bathroom while you were trying to take a piss." he was basically like "...pretty awkward."

COMMON SENSE FOLKS. It's one of the right-wing's favorite catchphrases but they're always lacking it...

ETA: “My guess is that the lawmakers did not consider trans men at all,” NAIL --> HEAD. They're so afraid of predatory guys dressing up as women (forget that actual transwomen are out there) that they didn't even think of the other side of that coin.

Re: Let's say Islam takes over

And yep that quote is pretty much spot on. There's also that its supporters are purposefully misgendering trans folk by labelling them as confused/disordered/liars, so I don't expect they'd ever consider the "actual" there.

And like I said, transwomen statistically outweigh who is actually likely to face harassment in bathrooms than to perpretrate it. Transgender on cisgender violence is a such a non-issue that it wrankles me that of all people to be painted as bathroom boogeyman jfc
