Fans of Punisher or People who understand comics
This is one thing I found.
"-Punisher by Rucka and Checcetto - Let’s get it out of the way - we are not worthy of Marco Checcetto. We will never be good enough to behold his art. His Frank is something to aspire to. BUT THIS IS A GREAT RUN.
You also need to read at LEAST the second volume for a FUCKING AWESOME PUNISHER/DAREDEVIL/SPIDER-MAN TEAM UP.
- The Punisher by Edmondson and Gerads - This is a Very. Good. Story. It’s not your typical PUNISHING ON THE EAST COAST story, the basic plot here is Frank chases daredevil to LA moves to the west coast, makes friends, and gets a dog. It’s really, really good."
But, are those the origin and such of him (or will the show origin suffice).
Looking at the wikipedia page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Punisher_titles and then this https://www.comixology.com/Punisher-By-Greg-Rucka-Vol-1/digital-comic/37198 confuses me more.
This is why I just can't get into comics. Rucka's run is Volume 1 OR Volume 9 depending on where I look.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-30 12:53 am (UTC)(link)Previous to that is the Marvel Knights run, which was a little lighter and tuned more to fans of Ennis' previous major work, Preacher. This is also the run that is now harder to find with the sole exception of Volume 1, Welcome Back, Frank.
Re: Fans of Punisher or People who understand comics
That means I want to start with Volume 7 (which they call the Max one) or Volume 5 (the first thing I see written by Ennis).
Re: Fans of Punisher or People who understand comics
(Anonymous) 2016-03-30 02:25 am (UTC)(link)Sorting by volume is confusing, I know.
Re: Fans of Punisher or People who understand comics
(Anonymous) 2016-03-30 03:53 am (UTC)(link)"The Punisher: Purgatory" was utter pants and I could feel my IQ lowering as I read it.
Re: Fans of Punisher or People who understand comics
I would recommend looking for the Mike Baron stuff from the 1980's. Maybe this one: http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Punisher-Vol-Mike-Baron/dp/0785127348
