That's one reason for his rise but not a sufficient cause in and of itself to explain it.

Which is why the Democrats need to nominate Sanders. He can take Trump on in ways that Clinton can not. He has been on labors side for longer than Trump and can do more to bring them in than Clinton ever could.

Rather than huddle around a failing candidate, it's best to consolidate the party around Hillary and try to pull her policies more to the right.

Although Obama and Hillary duked it out while McCain was already chosen and look who lost so maybe dragging the primaries out will mean better exposure?

No idea why Hillary declined to debate against Sanders, don't believe for a second he was too mean.
