oh no worries! I've read the books, and I don't think the movies are hugely different plot-wise

But it was the same plot point in the book? I haven't read it in awhile, but I distinctly remember Katniss looking to Haymitch in that moment and silently willing him to understand her. The narration doesn't explicitly tell you what she's trying to make him understand (so as not to spoil the surprise of Coin's death) but in retrospect it should be pretty clear what she was up to here.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty obvious that she was trying to lull Coin into a false sense of security by agreeing with her, so that she wouldn't suspect her intentions. At this point Katniss already knew that Coin was behind her sister's death, so why else would she side with her but to win her trust so that she could catch her unaware later?

I don't remember that at all, but I hope you are right and I am wrong. At the time I was upset with Katniss so maybe I just misread it and was being dumb? or was upset with her over something else? idk it was several years ago.

The problem with the fact that it was a fakeout in the books is that the author suddenly decided we didn't get to hear Katniss's thoughts about it, even though it was 1st person perspective. The ending is a cluster, because her editor should've hit her with a rolled up newspaper when she changed the POV rules like that suddenly in the last bit.

...combined with the fact that I'm a very literal thinker and tend to miss subtleties, and compounded by the passage of time since I read them - this comment explains SO much.
