Considering the situation isn't that different in some countries where a more extreme/restrictive form of Christianity has the biggest influence(Russia and Poland come to mind where gay rights are pretty much fucked and it's due to religious influence), I don't see that much of a difference.

Setting aside gay rights, which still raises its head as an issue even in the most liberal of countries, Muslim countries really are much more oppressive than Christian countries. The gender balance in particular is fucked.

Nah. If you look at some Muslim countries 30+ years ago before fundamentalist sects took over, they were about in a similar situation re:gender equality as some of the restrictively Christian dominated today.

But they aren't today. And the fundamentalists are the ones leading the pack and wanting to install Sharia law.

You're incredibly naive if you think that the most extreme version of Islam isn't the one that will pollute the rest of the world.

the law is still the law.

and yep, a country could fucked up to extreme punishments if they deemed to be treating that way. court-order, you do the maths....
