(Anonymous) 2016-04-01 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)JKR had some problems with the writing and characterization of some of her characters IMO, but Umbridge was one of the most superb fictional characters I've ever read in my life for the exact reasons you describe. She was SO REAL, so tangible.
