I hear you! Nothing bothers me more on a cosplay than when someone doesn't bother with the hair. I mean, even if you have a cheap wig, so long as you have the colour and more-or-less the style, it's better than showing up with your lank, brown hair!

Is body language really that important? I'm planning to crossplay, I guess I'll have to start looking more at male body language.

I used to crossplay and I always had the difficulty of standing like a girl in most of my pictures. Habits are hard to break.

I personally don't think body language is really that important unless you're involved in masquerades, though I do like to play up the character whenever I do photoshoots so it looks like a still out of a movie instead of a pretty picture.

Well, it can be important - a boy once won a cosplay competition as Shinji (from Evangelion) because he walked on stage in Shinji's exact slouch, with headphones in his ears. That cosplay is basically a white shirt and black trousers, but the whole audience cheered!

But that was for the competition in particular. Practicing a certain entrance on stage should be enough, and poses for when being photograhped is always nice when you're looking at them afterwards (and sometimes they're uploaded to the con website, aren't they?). Or just learning a certain typical gesture of a character is enough, if you do it with style!

As for walking around at the con, I think it would lessen the fun a bit if one has to think about that all the time. And when people really look is mostly during photo shoots and stage performance anyway.
