Please - if you have trouble with the way Sylar/Gabriel/whatever is written in a fic, TELL THE AUTHOR! There are really good Sylar characterizations floating around out there, and there are some really bad ones - but I think every writer I know wants to know - constructive criticism is a good thing.

If I'm writing him really OOC - just tell me so I can fix it. Please. I'll appreciate the guidance, and if I don't... well, just don't read my fic anymore, how about that? You have to tell me that there's a problem, though, or I'm not going to know.

This applies to every fandom - try commenting and telling the author instead of whining about it here.

I don't know how some writers would react to the fact that they're being told their whole fic is just completely ooc. A lot of LJ comments just seem to be 100% positive, not even a lit bit of crit.

But you know, you've convinced me with this. Next time I see this I'm gonna leave a comment.

I agree with the sentiment. But it's usually sort of obvious when someone is trying to stay IC but having some problems and when someone is deliberately creating OOC versions of characters for the purposes of their fic.

If someone is really writing about Sylar buying puppies with Peter and then having a tickle argument over what to name them then I just don't think that's an accident of characterization. That's extreme but there are some really extreme examples and I think they write like that because that's what they want to write about and telling them it's OOC isn't going to make a difference.

It's like when someone writes about Nathan raping Peter because they've got a rape fetish. They've got to KNOW it's OOC but it's what they like.
