While the internet is the home of anonymous and people who make up identities and hide, that is their choice. Sure they can say "Fandome MAKES ME hide" or "Homophobes MAKE ME hide" but in the end they've made a choice to hide. You can't blame your choices on anyone but you.

Sure you can. A choice between harassment and acceptance isn't much of a choice. The only choices that can be properly criticized are the ones made with complete freedom.

It's the same thing as saying that you're inviting harassment because you CHOOSE to show your faith.

Give me one example, with links, proof, something, where religious fans are getting attacked for having the gall to have religion. I want to see these horrible crimes against people of faith that make them hide.

I don't know what fandoms you hang out with, but I have never been in a fandom that made people hide their religion. I've never been in a fandom that it was even a concern that someone had religion. Got religion? That's great! Sure it might take exception to you writing fics where everyone turns born again Christian, but that doesn't mean you have to hide. Fandom is not some big bad horrible place where you can't be yourself. I feel that it's quite the opposite.

Well I don't exactly keep a running tab of people who get attacked for being religious, is the thing here.

I'm not religious, but I've definitely seen religion derided in fandom. I think there is a certain amount of hostility towards directed towards people with particular viewpoints (especially ones related to sex, love, monogamy, etc.) that don't always jive with the fandom's value system.

I think this is basically going to come down to a difference of opinion/experience, though.
karel: (text; why would you do that?)

I would, but about 99% of the time, it gets deleted due to how badly they get attacked (and sometimes how badly they respond, but that's life).
