That's truly sad, in my opinion. If a conversation happens to wander to religion, for whatever reason, people always think that if you mention you're a Christian or whatever that you're automatically shoving it down their throats. Yeah, because all Christians are totally like that.

Anyway, I can see why you're afraid, but I hope you find the strength someday not to.

It is easy to get a run of comments in some communities about how much Christianity sucks, and sometimes it's hard to watch even for a non-Christian such as myself.

Then again, I'm never sure if posters mean they really have to never mention they're a Christian or that people won't sit still and listen to conversion speeches. But maybe I'm too cynical. (That's directed at the theoretical OP, not you.)

Mmm yeah, it's kind of pointless to even argue/discuss religion really. Nobody is going to change the way they feel so it's a wasted effort asserting oneself, but I guess that could be said of EVERY topic ever...

The poster of the secret was pretty vague so their reasons behind them hiding their faith isn't all that clear. It'd be nice for some clarification, but I haven't seen the OP comment anywhere. Makes me think the secret isn't genuine really.

I don't think it's wrong to discuss religion in the right context. But it's hard to tell from one "secret" whether their complaint is legit. It could be.

Speaking as a Christian in fandom, sometimes...

Well, sometimes I get the feeling that soon as anyone in some of the larger communities (on LJ in particular) makes even a passing mention of being a Christian - most of the community, by default, feels they don't have to listen to them or respect them. They get automatically lumped in with the extremists and ignorant attitudes from 100 years ago without even being heard out as individuals. It's like, mentioning that you are a serious Christian loses you all respect instantly.

This doesn't happen with all communities... but a lot of the larger LJ fandom communities I've been on - it's been the case.
