Do it anyway, yo. Fandom's got no quality police as much as some people like to pretend that they are.

Better some variety that than a bunch of P!ATD songs I've heard a hundred times before.

This doesn't make any sense. Usually people enjoy fanmixes for the opposite reason: there such an eclectic selection that they find something new to enjoy even if they're only looking for something specific.

I find this a surefire way to get new music if I happen upon someone with a similar taste, as I also listen to a whole bunch of different genres.

Maybe but you yourself listen to them to be introduced to new music. What makes you think no one else does?

My commute playlist is songs I first heard from fan mixes and TV shows. I might have heard a few of the songs somewhere else if I hadn't listened to that fan mix or watched that show, but most I never would have heard. And that is the only thing the songs have in common because they're all different genres and it probably would sound crazy to anyone else listening in but that's part of why I love that play list so much.

So yeah, go for it!

Please do! I love fanmixes that have different genres of music!

Please do it anyway, OP. I have found so much new music through fanmixes. I get introduced to different artists, new covers, new styles...it's awesome. I can honestly say that half my music catalog came from fanmixes, either directly or indirectly.

Oooh, make a mix!! My absolute favorite fanmixes are the ones that pull together music from lots of different genres and styles and eras or what have you.

Don't worry OP

One of the things I love about fanmixes is that it exposes me to all kinds of music I may have never listened to otherwise.

A while ago I made a fanmix on 8tracks for a pairing in a semi-smallish fandom that featured alternative rock, pop music, at least two broadway showtunes, and it hit Gold.

Just focus on making a fanmix whose songs fit the character/fandoms you're focusing on and no using songs that have been used a hundred times before.

I have never found a fanmix I like because the ones I come across always have music I hate or that don't make any sense when it comes to who it's for.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-02 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
well seeing as i usually skip over fanmixes because they have too much of the same and predictable music, someone like me would probably enjoy your varied tastes

(Anonymous) 2016-04-03 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
List your fanmix here OP! I don't care the fandom/pairing (if any), but it is always a cool way to discover music.

I too hold back because I know some of the music I would use is generally not what is found in fanmixes for the pairings I like...but still! List please, OP?

Echoing everybody's opinion here - you don't want to repeat every single overused song in a fandom for a fanmix.

While I like " Angel with a Shotgun ", I can't stand how often it is overused for the Homestuck character Jake English.

You are exactly the fanmix maker I've been waiting for, if that's the case. I haven't bothered looking for fanmixes in a long time because everything is so same-y and it means if I don't like one song on the mix, I'll likely not like any of it... I'd much rather have an eclectic mix!
