Re: Why are?

I think it's stuff like Wattpad and the rise of people trying to write fic on public transport on their phone - I see this a lot in reddit fic communities, which is why I don't read reddit fic communities much. Not exactly the kind of environment that lends itself to the longer form.

As to the rest, well, it's just a saturation thing. There's still plenty of long fic, you're just under the Sturgeon Ocean right now.

Yeah, Sturgeon's Law has skewed in favor of the crap right now. Especially with AO3, which always trended towards very shortform and tag-centric fics.

Ya, the AO3 model has contributed massively to this.

The fic I'm writing on my phone is currently at 1,739 words. Not a longfic by any means, but well over drabble length.

ayrt

You have perseverance and confidence, go forth and enjoy!

I'm a good typist, but I loathe typing on my phone. I can't fathom writing a fic on the goddamn thing when swype already makes me want to chuck it out the window after two minutes of trying to text my partner back.

I prefer to write on an actual typewriter, but since I can't take my laptop to work, if I want to write on my breaks it's gonna be on my phone.

No no, they said a completed fic under 20k is worth reading. So anon is fine.
