I completely agree. I won't deny the impact they made on culture, but like someone else above said, a large part of it is so dependent on cultural-at-the-time context. The only really funny bits are the ones that don't exactly rely on it (such as the Minister of Funny Walks and the Dead Parrot sketches).

And of the films, Meaning of Life is by far the worst imo. I know some people find it to be hysterical and that's fine, but I couldn't even get through the first 20 minutes without wanting to go outside and do something productive with my life.

Even Ministry of Silly Walks depended on a certain familiarity with the UK's civil service.

Really?!...I thought it was just about being goofy. *is embarrassed*

I agree with Meaning of Life being the worst. Maybe because it's a series of sketches they tried to string together thematically into a movie, but so much of it is dumb. There are some funny sketches, to be fair (I love Every Sperm is Sacred) but most of it is really not that funny, and a lot of it is just gross.

Every Sperm is Sacred and the mega-family sketch is funnier and funnier in a "it hurts to laugh" way with every Republican policy announcement.

This, so much.

(My favourite bit is actually the school chapel bit, but only because I grew up Anglican and as a child I was always baffled at how much of the service involved "bald-faced flattery" of the Supreme Deity. He knows he's omnipotent, guys...)
