Now I'm curious: I know you're a teacher now, is this from a previous job? and did this stuff in your personal life influence your choice of previous job? Because it might not be just a case of not being used to reasonable/non-addicted people, it might be more that your subconscious personal definition of "people" might have been formed over time as "unreasonable and/or addicted people."

Course I could be totally wrong, but without more information it's hard to know.
