DA It depends on what you're looking for in a movie, some people need at least some understanding of the characters to really get into a story.

And even if action movies don't go deep into the characters, that doesn't mean it's okay for it to be lacking (I'm not arguing Fury Road was lacking, I'm just saying if you felt it was then that can be a serious issue to your enjoyment of the film.)

Everyone looks for different things in movies, for me a "big spectacle chase" is not enough on it's own, so I can understand OP's points.
