DA, and British, and queer: I'd say quite the reverse. I think it's rather sexist that these groups got away with having female characters and next to no female actresses for so long, but there's no backlash, not necessarily any inherent humour to seeing a man dressed as a woman. We don't really give a short sharp fuck about that sort of thing. I think when it's not particularly overt, that attitude still shows up, too - I'm under thirty, and felt the need to ask a friend of mine what the gender of his friend, who'd I'd bumped into a few times might be. My friend had no idea what pronouns his friend used, and seemed kind of nonplussed that I'd asked. Sometimes we just don't care very much. (It's still nice to get it right though). Obviously there's plenty of crap that trans people get in everyday life, I'm sure - but the number of people who don't identify as LGBT who crossdress from time to time is significant. I used to work in a charity shop and I was constantly helping the rugby team fit each other for miniskirts. It's just what they wore out drinking - "look at us! We're loud and having fun!"
