Oh my god, now I understand why I get such second-hand embarrassment every time I watch those scenes!

Poor Sean Astin. He did try though.

I feel the same way. :( I should be extremely happy, enjoying the dear friendship moments...but it just makes me want to hide.

I can never quite put a finger on why it makes me feel so awkward, unless I'm just incapable of enjoying things I "should" like, so maybe it is the acting?

Count me three! I would cringe whenever he was on the screen. Maybe because he was trying so hard it was like watching Sean Astin act rather than watch Sam?

nayrt - I think that might be it. IME, some of the best moments in the film are moments where I forget it's not real. I know it's supposed to be a dramatic moment but I'm unable to lose myself in the drama because I'm always aware that it's just Sean Astin, pretending.
