I'm sorry it didn't work for you, anon. :( I kind of can relate to Sam's personality myself, awkwardness in that portrayal included, as I know when I've tried to say something nice to friends, it just comes out cheesy. So to me, it seemed heartfelt. When you're facing down something awful with your best friend, sometimes you can't write the most epic poetry, you just say what you really mean and all that awkwardness might be corny, but it's you and your feels.
