Re: Piggybacking off the name-change thread--what were you almost named?

My dad wanted to name me Louisa and my mom wanted to name me Melania or Giordana.

She always spoke of "her Melania" as this ideal daughter she had never had, like when I misbehaved, she'd say "her Melania" would never do that. In retrospect...uh, it was kind of weird.

I feel like I dodged a bullet with Louisa. Melania and Giordana are pretty, but I already get enough people butchering my real name which is at least heard-of in the US, I bet I'd have it exponentially worse with either one of those. Although, my great-grandmother's name was Melania and she went by Mia, which is pretty and easy and I'd probably have gone with that, too.
