The Most Embarrassing Thing You've Done (As A Fan)

(Anonymous) 2016-04-05 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
What's the most embarrassing thing you've done throughout your fanboy/fangirl career? What do you look back and cringe at? Was it online drama? An embarrassing cosplay? Writing love letters to an actor? Spill!

My active participation at fanfic_rants. I don't think I was ever as toxic as the worst of the people, but god what a horrible community with horrible people.

Right. I used to post there and could get shitty myself, but at least I didn't pick fights with every person who dared have a different opinion from mine.

It used to be a fun place, until the SJW decided to take over.

tbh the very premise was mean-spirited

It's one thing to rant about general trends, but it was essentially a community founded on mocking people.

Which made the SJW takeover even more ridiculous

I used to go onto the mugglenet forums and argue with people about whether or not Draco Malfoy wanted to kill Dumbledore. I look back in shame, but I'd probably be willing to defend the little shit still, and just popping back to the forums (as I did just now, out of curiosity) is so intensely nostalgic....it was dumb, but it felt so fun and exciting and important.

Aside from all the cringey fics I look back on with shame, I once met my favorite author and actually jumped up and down and shrieked, "Oh my god, you're my literary idol and I want to be just like you!"

Aww, if I was them I'd find that really sweet.

when i found out my japanese class was going to a ramen shop, i put whiskers on my face to pretend to be naruto, when my teacher saw me, she told me to take it off though.

i also written every canonical moment between naruto and sasuke on my school diary so when my friends would argue with me, i would have all the 'facts' right in front of me.

not me but my friend and her cousin used to do 'naruto fights' where they pretended they had the rasengan, etc and fight each other.

Oh god, my friends and I used to do mock fights like those, but with attacks from Dragon Ball Z. And I used to take notes while watching Yu-Gi-Oh so I could justify my pairings. Although, now that I think about it, I'm a really thorough note taker. I wonder if noting down all the intereactions between Yami Bakura and Marik helped me with that.

I once went to where my fave actor at the time was filming something, but was too embarrassed to admit it and ended up pretending I'd just randomly walked by. I asked what was happening, stood around for a while, and left.

It is a tie between the time I attempted to cosplay as Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon and when I was touring the puppetry museum in Atlanta. I went into a small L shaped enclosed room and puppets started moving on their own. I saw a monkey puppet start to sway out the corner of my eye (it is supposed to, but I didn't know that at the time). I freaked out, yelled, and tried to get out of there as fast as possible, only to almost run down Jim Henson's daughter (she was at the museum to give a tour of the Henson exhibits). I love puppetry and want to start my own puppetry troupe, but I still have the occasional nightmare of being back in that room.

Wrote love letters to an actor, alienated him on his personal fan page and on Twitter. Not spilling his name, sorry! I still feel foolish even though ten years have passed.
