I was named for my paternal grandmother and my mother's sister, who was my godmother, and there was never a question of a girl baby being named anything else. If I had been a boy they'd have named me Anthony, after Dad's father.

Naming customs in my big fat Greek family are one reason that the whole idea of "stealing" a baby name makes me go "bwuh?" If you stood in the middle of the dance floor at one of our family weddings and yelled "GEORGE," probably a dozen guys would go "What?"
