(Anonymous) 2016-04-05 01:10 am (UTC)(link)And I'm so like...wtf.
DRAKE'S ASS IS ALSO ON THE SCREEN BECAUSE IT IS THIRD PERSON POV and there are women who FIND HIM HOT AND LIKE WATCHING SAID ASS. And WOMEN ARE ABLE TO IMAGINE THEMSELVES AS LARA AND NOT JUST THINK "oh no there is her ass it must mean I am a thing woe is me."
Like he is projecting his shit. He can't see Drake as sexual, so he doesn't. He CAN see Lara as sexual, so he does.
THAT ISN'T TO SAY THERE AREN'T PROBLEMS WITH LARA. There are. There is definitely sexualization there. You can critique Tomb Raider properly from a feminist perspective but FUCK that critique does not and should not involve a man talking about how women feel about her, and it shouldn't preclude women being capable of seeing themselves in the character. IT ALSO shouldn't preclude women being capable of seeing themselves in male characters (because if a woman can't see herself in a male character, then guess fucking what? All the dudes who say they can't relate to a female character ARE PROBABLY RIGHT) and it shouldn't preclude women sexualizing male characters, BECAUSE WE FUCKING DO IT ALL THE GODDAMN FUCKING TIME.
Fuck.
