IQ

What's your IQ? Or, if you don't know, what would you sort of roughly guesstimate it is, and why?

And how important or unimportant do you think it is?

I got a 193 on the Stanford-Binet as a kid. That test tends to inflate scores, so my score converts to somewhere north of two standard deviations above average. I don't think it means I'm "smart," per se, but rather that the specific things I'm good at are the things that IQ test measures. (I'm all over the place on different kinds of aptitude tests, ranging from 99th percentile at certain kinds of logic problems to 0th percentile at reproducing drawings from memory.)

It was 165 when I was tested in grade school. No idea if it has any bearing on anything at all. Maybe test-taking ability. I've always done well in school and learn things quickly.

Higher than average as a child, to the point that the school told my parents that I should skip a grade (this is something very very rare in my country).

But right now it's probably average or lower than average.

I've forgotten, which indicates how much I care for it lol.

Well I don't know so I'm going to guess it's like 300. That's how that works right? I'm totally a supergenius, that's why I've got these telekinetic powers.

IQ tests aren't meaningless, per se, but pretty close to it. People are constantly getting skewed results. Not even talking about self-tested internet people who took an online quiz and believe themselves to have 130+ IQs. Even official tests - smart kids have tested in the low IQ range, and very average kids can test in the high IQ range. The test, in the end, asks very specific questions that can't truly test intelligence.

I'm not saying that the IQ test is inherently bad - it does have some uses, but I lol basically at anyone who claims to have a super high IQ. Intelligence is very, very hard to test.

138.

I work in a dull public service job (that has people I like and job security benefits and a huge coffee pot) so I don't think it matters all that much.

My mother had me tested when I was 4 and the psychologist said my IQ was 154. My mother used to describe IQs as predicting "the size of the chalkboard and not what was written on it", which seems like it would be a nice way of looking at the issue but wasn't her real belief. For years, I struggled with maths but was told that I "had the ability" to succeed at them. Never mind that my aptitudes were highest in language and merely average/age-appropriate in numerancy.
