I think people have noticed. There are people that hate RoyEd for that reason, and people in the RoyEd fandom that make it a rather cliche overused drama dynamic to add angst to their fic.

I think it's worse that people notice, and still go on their merry way about it. I'd love to see one RoyEd fic that ends with "We can't do this." "Hey, you're right." and maybe, not have a happy ending for once. Too many people like that pairing and fluff together, and they just don't have a naturally fluffy dynamic. The two of them together is wrong in so many ways, and people simply choose to ignore that, in order to achieve their happy ending.

Granted, not everyone, but enough people to make you wonder.

Well, I was in FMA fandom for like two months back when the anime aired and fled screaming, so...

I'd put it down to a general problem in fandom - porn overrules morals or even bland stinking earth logic. I'm currently in a fandom which has no room for fluff whatsoever, just by the way the characters are constructed, and yet 75% or more of the fics ARE fluff. And heaven forbid you point out fluff is impossible for that pairing, then there's hell to pay.

The worst thing is, of course, that some people defend their fics/pairings/fandom/kinks to the death, even if any (or all) of it would get them stoned around the office water cooler.

I will never understand people's jones for fluff. Like, FLUFF AT ALL EXPENSE I MUST HAVE MY FLUFF RATIONALITY BE DAMNED. Dizgussting.

That's kind of how I feel... but I just blame it on the fact that I rather enjoy angst. Why else get into that kind of show, where there's a bunch of angst in the plot if you're going to disregard that entirely in fic?

I'd love to see one RoyEd fic that ends with "We can't do this." "Hey, you're right."

Try scoping out the older fic in the fandom? I was back in the FMA fandom in 2004/5 when it was, uh, considerably smaller (although still a bit of a hulking monster, albeit a slumbering one) and seem to remember Roy/Ed overwhelmingly taking that tone. Fluffy Roy/Ed was the abnormality, though it was not unheard of. Considering the fandom was a lot more focused back then, it actually should be easy to find the "good" older fics through things like rec sites or the old invite-only archives.

Oh, I've read the older stuff. I've been in the fandom (on and off) since late '04 myself, I think. That's exactly what I'm thinking of though, those fics. The fact that the fandom had so much of that stuff, and despite the good quality there was a lot, enough to make you sick of it... and now you can't find it anywhere.

It's just not the same re-reading the old fics I've already read, anymore.
I've read most of my favorites 3+ times, just because of that. After awhile, re-reads just lose the impact that first read had on you.

Thank you, though, I appreciate the suggestion.
