1: Yes, having friends with different interests is totally impossible.

3: Well, it has no shota as of yet, but I can understand an aversion to cat ears. I've still not quite understood their importance to the plot... Of course, they don't really bother me either.

20: Huh. Usually yaoi fans tend to be the ones that don't care about their pairings happening in canon, as far as I've seen. I mean, we love to talk about subtext, but I've yet to come across someone who actually expects a yaoi couple to become canon.

54: It's nothing personal, really. Her writing just became really, really bad. I liked the books a lot in the beginning, but the plot just drowns in all the sex, and her language has deteriorated something awful (and I say this as a non-native speaker!).

66: To a lot of people in fandom it seems seriously uncool to like the main character/s. I've no idea why (though often fans have an unfortunate tendency to assign traits to main characters that they don't have in canon, just because they are main characters).

Either talking about subtext, or cherishing the moments where the pairing almost seems to become canon. Or at least... that's the way I do it. >>

I have. And it was annoying. It is rare, but it's annoying when it happens, especially when a person treats people (friends included) who do not share their OTP like they are as dumb as a sack of diapers for not "seeing it." Or, at worst, starts calling people (who may *like* other yaoi couples, mind you) "homophobes" because they do not think *their* OTP is canon.

As said before, it is rare, but it happens - I know firsthand.

*sighs* Yeah, that can be really annoying. If I don't see the subtext- I'm not seeing the subtext like another person might be. Live and let live, I say. Even though... I have tried to convince someone that there has been a suggestion of something in a scene, but if they don't see- I'll back off.

Well, that's just being an arse, and they'd probably do the same thing about anything they'd taken a liking to.

Honestly, I think I've developed a sort of radar for fans like that, and can pretty much avoid most of them nowadays. I have come across people with the same reasoning skills in meta discussions a few times (though they weren't about slash/yaoi). The common denominator seems to be an inability to simply listen.

Yeah - I was referencing an ex-friend, and from what I can remember, she was pretty much like that with everything she got an obession with - the yaoi just happened to be her biggest thing. The obessiveness may have been related to her particular condition, but even that doesn't excuse some of the stuff that went on for me.

In the end, it was a matter of what Secret OP #1 might be trying to convey up there.
