I totally agree, though, FWIW. It was shit from there on out. The atmosphere of hopelessness, loneliness, was completely destroyed and then we got a saccharine ending, and for what? Lots of clichés all around. Blehhhh.

The first hour was so good.

This is part of the reason I am torn about the movie. I loved the book and I'm afraid the movie won't live up to the book.

I haven't read the book yet, unfortunately, but as someone who often refuses to see movies based on her own favorite novels, I can completely empathize. I wouldn't watch it, if I were you. The vampire-people are no longer truly sentient, and the ending is completely lame and loses all the irony of it. He's a legend as a hero of the human race, not as this insane serial killer who's murdering vampires. While I ADORE Will Smith (he's my favorite actor) and I think he did a fantastic job, the ending is a total disappointment, especially in contrast to the earlier portions of the movie.

So, yeah. Probably one to avoid if you don't want to lose your mental image of the book.

QFT. I think the movie would have been better off ending it with the scene of Will Smith's character driving into the zombies and eventually into the ocean basically WILL SMITH GETTING THE "IN WATER" ENDING. It might have been an anticlimatic way to end the film, but it'd fit with its tone far better than the Butterfly Ex Machina did.

DUDE YES THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT

I'm all for anticlimactic endings, too, which pretty much makes me NOT the average moviegoer. Unfortunately, it seems the average moviegoer is who they tried to pander the film to :\ what a shame. Honestly, it'd be much more realistic for him to just give up, despair, and kill himself than to s00par d00par magically save the earth ugh that's SO CLICHÉ SUHFGLKJ
