1. When you say Slash.. do you mean the guitar player, the evil turtle from Dimension X, or the concept of pairing 2 characters of the same sex (and usually very out of character)?
Either way, that's a very assholish move right there... I don't like Slash much either (even though I make acceptions here and there) but I'd never do something as mean as end a friendship for it, it's selfish. I have friends who treat me well who like things I don't, but I'd never leave them for such a thing...
(But if your friends are the "OMFG KAWAII MANSMEX!!!" types of slash fans, then I don't blame you, those types of fans SUCK)

I commented earlier, it's nice to see some people not flaming the hell out of the OP of 1. (I consider those that are to be "pulling the trigger in ignorance.") I mean, if he/she is getting rid of friends just for liking something, then yeah, they're an arse, but I suspect that it's probably more of the "Kaiiwaiii mansex! You MUST agree! Join us! Join us!" thing and he/she is sick of it - it becomes less of a fandom issue and more of a RESPECT issue when that happens, and I know firsthand.

27. Same here. Vash gets the uke end of the stick.... Alucard's hand at his throat. He doesn't look like he's enjoying this kind of "attention." Art with one "lover" crying and looking scared always freaks me out. I don't like slash with Vash, anyway, but the least slash/yaoi artists can do is draw him enjoying it.

except that's not what they said. they just made wholesale sweeping comments. you are going to empathize because you're not a slash fan and that's cool. those who are slash fans may not be so generous in their interpretation because at face value, it's a shitty thing to say and do.

different strokes, I guess. you say the glass is half full, someone else is a half empty but we can't tell where they are because they just look like a jerk and all we're left with is our own interpretation based and colored by our own perceptions and experiences.

Yeah, they didn't make it entirely clear, they even came across to me (at first glance) as "I'm going to ditch my firends because they like something I dislike" but thinking about it... my own experiences and those of other people I know who don't like slash but who have/have had friends who do -- I come to the latter conclusion.

I *do* have current firends who fanfic and enjoy slash - and I get along with them. The difference between them and the one friend I did break off with *partly, ONLY PARTLY* due to slash-obession is two words: Mutual respect.

There are a great many sane slash fans out there, but there are also the nutbunners - and having dealt with one of them, I will tend to emphathize and come to my second conclusion on things like this.
