That's just how American shows are. Hiatus all over the place! I don't know why none of them account for future breaks and make episodes to cover for it like the rest of the world.

Best bet is to wait until the whole season is out. I can never remember when hiatus start and end so I can never jump on in when they eventually start up again. Especially the whole wait 6 weeks just for the finals type deal that happens all the times.

It's not normal to have the crazy constant hiatuses that SU have been subjected to. CN seems to be doing some weird screwing around with this show in particular, especially considering their sudden announcement that S2B is now S3.

But at least we have a solid three months of confirmed episodes coming up.

One of the creators tweeted about how SU gets used for counter-programming. Wait for another channel to announce their schedule for a popular show, then air SU at the same time to try and bleed off viewers from the competition. (He didn't name names, so I'm not sure which shows it counters.)

I don't understand this about programming. How does it help your show to have another show lose viewers? Why wouldn't you want to put it on at a time when there wasn't competition and just get the most views you could?

I guess because it makes your show look even more "superior"? Not only does it "steal" other viewers, but then it makes the gap between the two bigger?

At least that's just my guess =\

I'd do the same as your suggestion: put it on at a time when there wasn't competition

It's a holdout from when everyone watched live TV, you couldn't skip commercials, and shows were merited by Neilson Ratings. The more popular network programming garnered more advertising prestige and ad revenue, thus more $ and power for the network. So it literally paid to "win" more viewers. It doesn't have the same impact in the DVR/Netflix/YouTube age, but the industry hasn't fully adapted to that yet.

I'm inclined to agree, especially with shows that are 11 minutes long. It doesn't hurt to leave us on a cliffhanger, it hurts when you stop, don't give us a return date, and give us one three months later telling us to wait another two months.

Hiatuses are no fun at all. I don't even blame you for dropping something due to hiatus hell, even if it's good.

I'm a Homestuck fan, so I know the feeling. Is it worse for a TV show than a webcomic?

I enjoy it, but it's hiautuses are really annoying. I don't even know when it's supposed to come back at this point in time.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-07 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
June! Fucking June.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-06 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, no one likes waiting. The release schedule is a pain. But I guess you can just not watch them when they air and just marathon them after the season's over.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-06 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Steven Bombs as much as the nest person, but CN really needs to stop releasing so many of them if they ever want SU to get back on a regular schedule.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-06 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
CN is oddly hostile to its programming. Steven Universe is far from the first show to have its schedule randomized.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-06 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
They make big cash selling ad space during the "bombs", so don't hold your breath for them wanting a regular schedule.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-07 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Source for this?

Every time this piece of shit show goes on hiatus, an angel gets its wings.

I'm almost to that point myself. Honestly I tend to forget about shows entirely when they go on a mid-season hiatus. When I do realize they're coming back on, I have to remember why I liked the show in the first place, because I've since gotten over the ache of 'where's my shooooow?' and learned to live again without it.
If that makes sense.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-07 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I mean

you can do other stuff while it's not on

(Anonymous) 2016-04-07 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
I think the real point is losing interest in something because you're essentially not getting any new content for it. People are going to "grow out of" the fandom at this rate because they get tired of waiting.

I have a bunch of shows to keep me busy but I'm admittedly not as into SU as I used to be.

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2016-04-07 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Not a fan of the show, but I don't understand why they don't have normal seasons? Hiatuses suck and kill hype.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-07 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
It's a Cartoon Network show. They have no idea how to schedule unless its to push things like Teen Titans Go or to screw over a show some exec has a bug up their ass about.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-07 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Am I being ridiculous if this makes me think of the WIP whining secret from a few days ago?

I watch all shows online so it's very very rarely I'm watching something on a weekly schedule anyway. I adore SU and I don't really get this secret... but i guess it's as good a reason as any to stop watching something you're not that into.
