(Anonymous) 2016-04-07 05:39 am (UTC)(link)I haven't brought up jack shit about Black/Asian interactions, you're the one who started out foaming at the mouth that I dared mention Aomine being dark skinned, you accused me of "blackwashing" him (LMFAO), and then you started ragging on actual real life Black/Asian racism, none of which had ANYTHING to do with my original comment.
You're fucking spastic.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-07 05:59 am (UTC)(link)i have to ask...
(Anonymous) 2016-04-07 06:03 am (UTC)(link)...seriously though, what were you trying to accomplish? i've been reading through this entire comment chain trying to figure out what set you off, and while i don't agree with anon's use of 'spastic' either, it really seems like you jumped on them for no reason, and you keep fighting about something they never said. they didn't say anything wrong, and they did immediately clarify themselves regarding aomine. (i'm just going to say i don't belong to this fandom and i totally thought he was meant to be like, indian or something whenever i saw him come up on my tumblr dash, whoops. yeah i can see why op called him ambiguously brown, he looks pretty much exactly like agni and soma from kuroshitsuji, and they're canonly indian) they never said black people are never racist towards asian people. (i've personally seen both, and i've also seen black/asian couples too so it's definitely not a....er...black and white thing? no pun intended.) from the pov of an outsider it's like you're arguing about nothing, and then accusing them of being racist against asians where they never were.
so without getting mad at me, can you explain what the purpose of all this was? because i really don't understand.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-07 06:09 am (UTC)(link)Re: i have to ask...
(Anonymous) 2016-04-07 07:18 am (UTC)(link)really? they seemed pretty honestly pissed, and it sounds like they have a personal grudge. if they want to refute that i'm totally open to hearing it, but personally i think the op of the original comment is right and they jumped the gun to accuse her (did they mention a gender?) of racism. this happens a lot i've seen, where people hold pocs to a higher standard than white people. the moment a poc says something they can deem 'problematic' (even when it's not really, like in this case calling a brown japanese person brown because...they are) they try and use it to shut down the entire argument the poc is making, even though it's technically sound. a bunch of goalpost moving, as the other op said.
i think iggy and the op who responded to her/him are right about anime. i'll admit i did this when i was younger too. it makes me kind of ashamed to admit that because i'm not even white, i've just been so ingrained to see 'white' as the default that i assumed for a really long time that asian people were mimicking white features in anime characters. i never thought that simple technical animation things like striking colour palettes to differentiate main characters, and large wide eyes being important for conveying emotion could be behind the anime style. ^^;; i feel kind of stupid now that i understand a little more about the process of animation and creating memorable characters, but i mention it because i think it's something a lot of people do.
Re: i have to ask...
(Anonymous) 2016-04-07 07:58 am (UTC)(link)We'll obviously I can't say if it's true but I'm going by experience and say that it sounded a lot like trolling. (Maybe it started genuine but in the end it... seemed more like mindless provoking and OP fell for it).
Ah, no, I misread the part about their gender (comment in the solticisekf thread - I assume it's the same person)- they left it unspecified.
And honestly, I don't see why shutting down a POC's argument for being problematic is any worse than all the "you sound white" being used to shut down other arguments someone might not like.
Re: i have to ask...
(Anonymous) 2016-04-07 08:29 am (UTC)(link)ahh yeah i'm not sure either. honestly i think it sounded a bit like purposely being over the top, but there are probably some real grievances stuck in there too. it's way too random of a goalpost to move to ("blacks are racist against asians!") from the original point. they seemed a little too invested to me. but it could be trolling too, i dunno, this topic is pretty wank baity.
ahh, i'm not sure if it's the same person in both threads, it seems like a bunch of people are on right now. i was just confused.
i think you misread that last part. the issue is that often the thing they're nitpicking about isn't problematic. like the maybe-troll trying to start shit because because the op mentioned aomine is brown. i notice people purposely trying to steer arguments away from a point a poc is making. also, a lot of the 'you sound white' stuff....i gotta admit as a latina person, half the time i see that the anon being questioned does sound white. ^^;; there's a different sort of life experience when you're singled out for being poc that a lot of white people in my experience, unless they're also on the minority ladder somewhere (trans people definitely seem to get it), don't really understand. the original op is right, this entire secret thread is filled with a lot of very privileged people who probably have no idea what it feels like to be looked at as 'less than' for something you can't change. it's hurtful, to know that people view your entire race as something someone needs to specifically be 'into', where white people are the assumed 'default' (i.e. you need to specifically not be into white people, where pocs are something you need to specify you are into, white-as-normal). i don't agree with using the term to derail arguments though. but i do think it's important to point out when someone might be coming from a privileged stance. having trans friends has taught me pretty good how much privilege is a subtle thing. the phrase 'privilege is not knowing you have it' s apt in this case. so i do think there is some merit in pointing out that a bunch of white people arguing for 'preferences' doesn't exactly make the best case for slash not having a race problem.
