I'm not sure we watched the same show TBH.

Eleven forced humanity to commit genocide against their will and the show gave it triumphant music and pretended it was awesome.

Did you watch the subsequent two seasons of the show where Moffat essentially gave an extended critique of that action, 11 as a doctor, and the concept of Doctor Who as a television show, though

Like even if you think the show was insufficiently critical about the doctor in that episode, I don't think you can say the same when you look at the seasons as a whole

You're expecting critical thinking when they can just hate the doctor anyway?

I don't hate the Doctor.

I don't really think that the following seasons were a critique of his actions in that episode at all...? Honestly not getting it.

I haven't watched the seasons (especially S6) recently enough to say with certainty that they're responding to that specific moment. But my point is that they are fundamentally critical, and given that fact, I don't think this accurate to say that 11 never faces criticism for his attitude or that the show never recognizes it's problematic.

For the record i think the critique doesn't come through very well due to the storytelling failures of season 6 but like. I don't think using one specific episode to draw a conclusion about 11's Era as a whole is a great approach.

SA sorry I realized my posts were confusing as a result of phone posting

I'm pretty certain the critiques in the rest of the season were relevant to the Silence stuff given how Moffat works but I can't point to details given that I haven't watched the season recently

Regardless of that point the argument that the show is uncritical of Doctor Who seems ridiculous

ok. I don't mean to say the show is never critical of Eleven b/c I can definitely think of some times that it is, but yeah I don't particularly think it's critical of that scene?

OK I'm glad you agree in the broader sense but I'd like to point out how little your response made in the broader context of this thread. Because here's how it played out, as far as I can see:

OP: "Doctor Who never challenged 11's smugness and arrogance."
Tcex28: "That does not match with my observations of the show during 11's era."
Iggy: "But what about this one episode where 11 did something bad????"

If you agree that the show was critical of 11 in general, why did you bring the Silence episode up in the first place? This was clearly and obviously a conversation about 11's tenure on the show as a whole. That's what's weird to me about this whole conversation. I just don't see how your problems with one specific episode were relevant to the conversation that was actually going on here.

She meant me. I called her out on her idiocy before and apparently, she can't believe that there is more than one person who finds her antics annoying.
