Killing your slave/your own property often wasn't met with any consequences back then either and still we judge it to be cruel and a murder from today's standpoint. Either we suspend our moral judgement for all crimes measured against what was alright during the time a series takes place in, or we judge everything with the moral standards we have today. Picking and choosing depending on how much you like a character and how much you like them to appear morally innocent is hypocrisy.
