I LOVE Atop The Fourth Wall! Linkara usually has good criticism along with the snark.

I've got to ask what your favorite episodes are.

Not OP, but...

It's the Mr. T episodes. All of them. Duh.

Holy wow it's been a long time since I've seen someone use the verb "to spork."

(Anonymous) 2016-04-11 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Linkara too!
I'm so glad he didn't get roped into all the bullshit TGWTG drama and quit like all my other favorite reveiwers did. :(

Never saw the other thing but I love AT4W, mostly. Some of the reviews feel a bit forced when the comic is just "meh," but he's usually great when he reviews either shitty crap from the Big Two or insane stuff (like '90s hardcore goofiness) that's So Bad It's Good.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-11 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't watched AT4W in foreeever, I should get back into it

(Anonymous) 2016-04-11 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Same.

I just never liked when the issues seemed to about the sort of fic the authors wrote, more than anything else.

This may be shocking, but if you don't like OCs, reading a fic with them is probably a bad idea.

Also, I felt weird laughing at fourteen year olds. :/ (Although not all Suethors and badfic writers were fourteen.)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: you cannot use sporking to drive off "bad apples" in your fandom. Every time I've seen someone try, it turns into a witch hunt.

Yes to all this.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-11 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed on this. Especially that last part. Any adults who get their kicks mocking thirteen, fourteen year old writers need to find something else to do with their time.

MTE.

I've definitely read fanfic that I found a bit cringeworthy or not that great but I just back-clicked and moved on, publicly making fun of it is just way too mean-spirited for my tastes.

I used to follow sporkers too and as I got older found it kind of mean-spirited. And it was just pendantic and negative.

I think Lin-Manuel Miranda molested my parakeet. I'm sort of depressed about it.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-12 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
wut?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-12 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Does AT4W still incorporate long, convoluted story arcs into the reviews? I was never a huge fan of that part...

(Anonymous) 2016-04-12 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's generally true that once you get out of your late teens/early twenties, shit that seemed funny as hell just looks, in retrospect, to be mean-spirited and nasty. I know there's things I did and said in my earlier years I just couldn't bring myself to say now.

I know how you feel. I recently read a blog that did a chapter-by-chapter sporking of The Name of the Wind, and I hate that book so much reading that gave me great joy.

I also watched an hour long video of a youtuber ranting about Sword Art Online and why it sucks. This, too, was extremely satisfying for me.

Worst Bestsellers is extremely juvenile, and run by one of the most passive aggressive and annoying people I have met in fandom...

(Anonymous) 2016-04-12 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, hey, Worst Bestsellers! They're cool. I love bad book podcasts. If you like them, you might like I Don't Even Own A Television.

Totally agreed on sporking fanfic. It's simple bullying - vicious, mean-spirited and just plain petty. I loathe it.
