Fuck parenthetical citations

I am lost without my goddamn footnotes I can never forgive you for this, professor who wants parenthetical citations

Can you write the paper with footnotes and then convert to parentheticals? It might be easier to track.

I'm the reverse. I was always taught to use parenthetical citations and I always found it hard to interpret footnotes as a result. On the occasions when I have to use footnotes myself, they're really just parenthetical citations shoved down to the bottom of the page.

But you can't go on a rant in a parenthetical! :P And they're so distracting

Maybe that's why my professors didn't want footnotes. No ranting!

I tend to let parenthetical citations pile up in strategic locations in a paragraph instead of scattering them around so they don't break up the text too much, unless it's really important to emphasize what came from each different source, like in a list of examples or a list of different interpretations/viewpoints.
