I'm always curious what kind of mochi people mean; I grew up eating brown rice mochi that came as a refrigerated vacuum packed sheet that you cut into squares and baked in the oven until they puffed up (white hippy kid here, I guess the white rice kind are more common) but do you mean the ones that're stuffed with sweet bean paste or ice cream? I make the brown rice kind I'm used to sometimes, but it's a pain because I have to grind brown sweet rice into flour to make it.

The ice cream kind! I should have specified. I watched a video on it and it seems like something my nephew would enjoy eating. And it doesn't look terribly hard to make as long as you have the ingredients.
