I don''t like all kidfic, but the type I like is the sort that looks at the characters' reaction to the added complication of a child, on top of their normal lives. Their normal lives should not stop for the child, but be made more difficult.

(The sort of kidfic I dislike is when everything is derailed for the child and it becomes the centre of attention instead of the canon characters.)
