Mostly the art style, to be honest. I could see myself getting into some of the older series, maybe, but I found X kind of boring after a while, and the newer stuff's art style makes me go sdfjdafs at the blatant disregard for body proportions. And the noodle people, oh my god.

This is also why I won't touch Code Geass. Shallow, perhaps, but hey.

Fourthed. Tsubasa was the final straw, but it made me realize how awful their other manga are. I can't believe people can take it seriously. (The art is bad enough on its own - the art combined with the rabid fans of the art is what makes me want to bash my head into a wall.)

Well, I do enjoy CLAMP for my own reasons (taking anything too seriously is lame), but I have to LOL at the "eye-removing fetish". xDDD Not my words, but I noticed the same thing!

I don't generally think CLAMP are bad (let's face it - there's a whole of a lot worse out there) they're just really over-rated. X's artist (there's 4 of them as far as I know) is just... UGH. I'd have stuck with the story (sort of, even if the characterization and main plot ideas to me look like copy-pasting from their previous comics) if it wasn't for the triangle-chin faces with circle-eyes, same stiff poses (anatomy? What anatomy?) and headache-worthy pointless detail on each page. I'm a comic artist and I'll call myself a stupid European if you will, but their works defy any logical sequence a comic (or manga) should have: it's like reading an illustration book. So when you strip down all the 'pretty' decôre... sorry but I don't see much left except extremely dramatical stories that hold emotions you just can't place but you look anyway cuz the detail makes you forget you're supposed to (or at least that they're supposed to be crucial for the plot). The other artist (Reservoire Cronicle) I find slightly more appealing, but either I'm weird or I just don't see all the awesome in their plots. They don't faze me in the least. If I'd want a fantasy / End of world/Intellectual stimulation story I'd say Lodoss War / The Gundam series / Final Fantasies / Gainax take a lot more promising approaches.

I was once told I should draw more like CLAMP, that I had potential to draw like them. After finishing an art-school and being trained by a pro comic artist, I took it as an insult (sorry, my personal opinion). I'm not an egoistic bastard who thinks highly of her work, on the contrary (who knows me will tell you) but ugh. Seriously. Just because it's 'pretty' it doesn't mean everybody can pretend not to notice it's severely lacking on all other departments.

So thank you to whoever posted this secret. It should NOT be a secret. I'm sure more people share our opinion than they're willing to admit.

And, again, I apologize to any fans who might read this. I've never said anything about this anywhere before, but I'm glad I had the opportunity to. I realize most of you don't sit there and analyze the mangas you read like I do, just... a little more introspection is what I miss in fandom sometimes. Don't let yourself be fed the biggest thing the market offers - oftentimes they don't necessarily equal quality, just good PR (and as a PR in the making I really should not be saying this).
