Sorry, but if you think anything by Ken Akumatsu is meant to be deep on any level, you're wrong and reading way too into it. The man writes the same story filled with every moe stereotype female characters he can find. The only thing new he did with Negima was instead of having a hapless dweep male lead, he made Negi a Harry Potter-esque shota bait to be the affection of his always prevalent Tsun-dere from hell female lead. Fandom wank defenses won't save any face that Akumatsu only writes the same kind of shonen harem fluff over and over. :D

Agreed. Love Hina was one of the most crappy mangas I've ever read, and Negima! just perpetuates trite plot devices.

Mm...I'm going to have to disagree. While yes, there is the standard Akamatsu harem crap, there is an actual plot in there--and a story that counteracts the 'standard Akamatsu plot'. I have read Love Hina and A.I. Love You and I thought both were crap--because all they were just harem. Negima has harem plus substantial plot that I think overrides the harem.

I think you're not reading into it enough.

Personally speaking, I don't mind harem anime if they're well done - I enjoyed Tenchi Muyo and Ah My Goddess - but I tried reading Negima, but the first volume made me want to put it down and never look at it again. A little fanservice is fine, but as soon as Negima started sneezing girls' clothes off - I mean, come on, it's like a soft-core version of a porn device! Nevermind that this little wizard kid teaching at an all-girls school is a pretty WTF premise, even for anime. If there's a good plot down the road somewhere... well, let me ask you this: when does it start getting good? >_>;

Story and chracters didn't hook me a bit, if it takes more than 2 volumes for a shonen manga to actually establish itself, it's doing it wrong and I somehow dragged myself through 5 volumes before I had enough cause by that point the 'so bad it's entertaining' factor factor.
