Hey, you're not being silly. That's a valid issue, and it's good that you're concerned about it. Still, if you're concerned about it, you're probably not the kind of person who's gonna be a problem. A fanfic isn't a limited commodity; you can't use it up on the wrong people. You can't hurt anybody just by reading. As long as you're not trying to influence people's tastes, and as long as you can stay respectful of them during discussion, you're fine.

you, by your response to him and to me because it is directly relevant to his issues. you cautioned him to be respectful when replying but that caution really needs to extend to beyond him. in fact, judging by his comment and the way it was worded, HE wasn't the one with a courteous response issue.

I'm sorry if what I said could be read that way. Please remember, though, that the original secret indicates that he was already concerned that there may be something wrong with his behavior. I never said that I don't think he's being respectful already (how the heck would I know?). I'm just saying that if he's being reasonable, he shouldn't have anything to worry about. Which is true of pretty much everyone, yes, but not all of them are in FS openly worrying about it.

Also, I disagree about that being relevant to him. It's true that plenty of other people act badly, but that shouldn't stop him, or anyone, from a good faith effort to act well. And the thing he's concerned about IS a real, legitimate issue that does cause problems with certain individuals. It's not right to dismiss it by saying that other people are bad too, just as it's not right to dismiss it by saying he's just being silly.
