AGREED. I don't see how it's artistic at all. o_o Nice to fuck around with, but NOT giving anything to the fandom, wtf.

... I don't think anyone's ever claimed it to be an art? And I don't know what you mean by not giving anything to the fandom - I know a lot of people who audience those kind of RPs, including myself.

-shrug- I've heard people talk about it like it was on the same level as fanfiction...which, of course, while fanfics have a tendency towards being crap, writing a story just isn't the same as rping a story out.

About the audiences for rp, well, I spoke hastily and was wrong, even though I know people do watch them. XD I guess I should reread what I just said before I hit 'post comment.'

I think multi-fandom RPs are one of the best ways to introduce people to other fandoms ever.

Fourthed. If it weren't for RP my participation in fandom would be minimal, and I would probably not be into any of the fandoms I currently enjoy.

Hmm... well, if it's just like "*blah blah blah* blah blah blah*" I might agree with you, but if it's full out prose roleplaying, I don't see much of a difference.

I don't do it to "give to fandom," I do it because I, personally, find it entertaining. And if there are other people who enjoy playing with me, or reading my threads (I hope there are some of the former, at least), isn't that "giving something to fandom" in its own way? I mean, it may not be on the level of writing an epic fanfic or whatever, but it's something.

And yes, it's not high art, but why does it have to be? We find it fun. I have a number of artistic original writing projects; if I'm feeling pretentious artsy I can work on one of those instead. Sometimes, however, I feel like... well, crack multifandom commentspam RPing. It's a different kind of thing, for a different kind of mood.

Basically, I guess what I'm saying is, why are we obligated to be "artistic" and "give to fandom"? Can't we just enjoy ourselves without people telling us that we're doing it wrong because what we enjoy isn't what they enjoy?
